Secure your car & home

There were a number of car and home break-ins across the Coomera area including Coomera Waters during July/August.

Most of the cars affected have been parked on the road or a driveway and have been unlocked. So please lock your car, park in a garage if possible and remove all valuables from your car including bags, coins, laptops and GPS systems.

House break-ins have mainly occurred at night while residents are home. Please secure your home even while you are home. Flyscreens are not security devices so you need to lock any open windows. You also should secure your home before going to sleep.

Please note that living in a gated area does not mean your home or car will not be targeted. Some of the recent offenders have been on foot and have been able to access the gated areas.

If you have any Security questions or issues please call Coomera Waters Security on 5501 9299 or call the police on 000 in the case of an emergency.

Be responsible for pets - cats must be registered with Council & kept on your property

It has been noted that some residents are not picking up after their dogs around the estate which means an increased amount of dog poo. Please be responsible and take the time to pick up after your dog.

Also, according to the CW by-laws, cats need to be indoors from 6pm till 6am and need to wear a bell in attempts to protect local wildlife.

Gold Coast City Council laws now require all cats now need to be registered from 3 months of age. You can be issued with a $200 on the spot fine if your cat is not registered. Dogs also need to be registered.

Click here for animal information on council website including registration forms

Council also requires that cats be kept on your property at all times to prevent them being a nuisance to neighbours and local wildlife. A $75 on the spot fine can be issued to owners of cats found outside their property and cats may also be impounded.

Council also suggests desexing your cat at an early age and also identifying your cat with a collar, tag or microchip. More info available from Council's Animal Management section on 5581 6664.

Council's East Coomera Koala Conservation Project - they want your feedback

New signs have gone up on local roads outlining contact numbers for koala sightings (5582 9100) and koala injuries (5527 2444). This is part of Gold Coast City Council's new initiative - the East Coomera Koala Conservation Project - designed to protect koalas as development progresses on the Coomera Town Centre.

One of the more immediate measures is a koala relocation and monitoring program which Council is carrying out in accordance with a Scientific Purposes Permit issued by the Department of Environment and Resource Management. Through this program, koalas that are most at-risk through habitat clearing will be relocated to other areas to secure habitat in Gold Coast City. Koalas that come into the program will be micro chipped, radio-collared and released. Council's project team will then track and monitor these koalas for a period of up to two years.

Council is calling on residents and visitors to report all koala sightings (healthy, injured, sick or dead) in the Coomera area and other areas of the city. You can call the koala information line on 07 5582 9100 or go to Council's koala webpage www.goldcoastcity.com.au/koala  which includes an Online Koala Sighting Form plus other great koala information. You can include past koala sightings too as all information is helpful.

GC Council Koala Sighting Form

If you find a sick or injured koala please call Wildcare Australia on their 24-hour line on 07 5527 2444.

Please take extra care when driving at night as koalas are more active in the evenings. As development progresses and koalas become displaced, more koalas will attempt to cross the roads. Being a responsible pet owner will also help protect koalas. Keep dogs restrained and indoors between dusk and dawn to help minimise attacks.

Council appreciates your support of this important initiative.

Watch where you park - CW Parking Infringement info

Recently signs were erected at the entries to the estate outlining the CW Parking Bylaws and how they can be enforced. No rules or bylaws have been changed - just outlined in a sign. A towing company has been engaged to act when necessary. Infringement notices have begun to be handed out and letters about this issue have gone to all homes.

Please note that parking violations in the marina/commercial district will be towed in the first instance. You will not get a warning via a parking infringement notice in that area. This especially applies to the 15 min parking zones. 'Tow Away' signs have now been installed throughout the marina - all signs mention the times when the tow away applies.

Most residents are already parking well. However, the rules are there to help stop those parking incorrectly and are largely to stop the regular persistent offenders and those who park in awkward positions that stop the safe flow of traffic. Parking Infringement Notices will be issued as warnings in most cases except the marina district (please see par above). Violations could result in your car being towed at your own expense.

The Body Corporate is "empowered to remove all vehicles on the common property" which includes park areas, grassed areas and kerbsides. Most houses in CW are designed for four cars - 2 in the garage and 2 on the driveway which allows space for any visitors. However, if you are planning a large party at your home let Security (5501 9299) know so they can be aware of the increased amount of cars in your street. If you are having visitors for an extended period of time, consult your local Body Corp for permission to park on the street if need be.

Call Council for help with the mozzies & midgees

Gold Coast City Council are more likely to spray our area for mosquitoes & midgees if more of us ask them to and/or complain! So if the insects are running riot in your neck of the woods, ask council for some respite on 1300 130 854 and ask for "Pest Management."

Problems with phone or internet? Call Pivit's NEW number 1300 66 33 20

If you have any problems or issues with your phone or internet services through Pivit, please contact their operations centre on 1300 66 33 20 from Mon to Sat 7am-7pm. This is a new contact number. The old one will still continue to work but it is being phased out.
